Trying to find a new job is a challenge for most people. I can’t think of anyone who thrives on searching newspaper and online classifieds, looking for a job. Does anyone really look forward to having to do interviews, being sometimes asked questions by a panel of 3 or even 5 people? I don’t think so!
At times, job seeking can be a frustrating and even depressing experience. No one likes rejection, but if you are applying to fill one position at a company and there are 25 people who are sitting through the interview process, there are 24 people that are going to get rejected.
One potential possibility for sourcing out a new job is to work on a temporary basis. There are many recruitment Agencies that you can work with and they will help you to find the kind of employment you are looking for. Failing that, there will be many temporary assignments with different companies. Perhaps you will be filling in for a worker who has fallen ill or who has had to take a temporary leave.
In a case like this, not only can you make some interim money, you can often sell yourself while you are with a company on a temporary basis. Companies appreciate temporary workers with great communication skills and who can work well with other people. Even if your temporary position ends, let the company know you are interested in continuing to work with them. If they have been pleased with your work efforts, you may be in line for a job offer or failing that, they will request you specifically when they get in touch with the recruitment agency again.
If you temp at a public relations firm or a marketing firm, you will likely be involved in duties such as promotions or video conferencing. These firms work with clients to enhance their branding strategies and put promotional plans into place. You may find yourself working with firms to assist the clients of your firm to build awareness of their brands. If you can gain experience, even a small amount, this could open the door for you for a full time job. Don’t forget to network with these other firms – if they like what you are doing and if they feel you are a valuable asset, you could land a permanent job.
Temp jobs will give you a lot of exposure and give you the opportunity to do the networking you need to. Temp agencies work with all kinds of businesses, such as office supply stores, legal and medical offices and mortgage companies.
So if you are needing or wanting to change your career and secure a better future for yourself, don’t discount going to work for a temporary agency. You will meet a lot of people, do a variety of work and maybe even get yourself that full time permanent job that you are looking for!
