When planning your wedding, you will of course, need to think about your bridal party. How many attendants? How many groomsmen?
You will want to choose your very closest friends, and siblings too. Will you also want to have a ring bearer and a flower girl?
These are wonderful opportunities for any young nieces or nephews that you have. Children of close friends would be another possibility.
Just be sure to have some of your grown attendants know the younger ones (and vice versa). Ask your attendants to watch out for flower girl and the ring bearer.
Since these junior members of the bridal party are so young, it’s important for the adults to be supportive and kind. This will be a stressful moment for these little ones and everyone needs to realize this.
But everyone loves seeing a flower girl and a ring bearer at a wedding. It’s always adorable, even though it can be a bit unpredictable.
And there’s nothing like seeing a little boy dressed in a tux alongside a sweet girl in a pretty dress, trying to make their way down the aisle. Usually tossing petals. Adorable!
What Should a Flower Girl Wear?
She needs a very pretty dress, some short white dress socks, and dressy shoes. The dress needs to be very special, kind of bridal like, in that it should have lace and or tulle.
The dress should be in a similar color to the other bridal attendants; a slightly lighter color always looks very classy.
You will, of course, need a flower basket for the little girl. Lots of options here and think about if you want your flower girl scattering pretty petals along the aisle.
What’s the theme of your wedding? Can you tie in the flower girl basket with your theme? There are lots of different kinds of baskets – classy and elegant flower girl baskets like these. This ribboned and pleated silk flower girl basket is great for a traditional upscale wedding.
If you’re having a more country style wedding theme, take a look at this burlap covered flower girl basket with a love knot. Perfect!
Maybe you don’t want your flower girl tossing pretty petals. Or maybe it isn’t allowed in your wedding venue (you better check!).
Then, skip the flower basket altogether and go for something else.
Like, ,maybe have her blow some bubbles on her way down? (Grab these pre-filled bubble bottles for all your reception guests to use later in the evening) Or she could hold a tiny mini bouquet of flowers.
Having Flower Girls and Ring Bearers at the Wedding
You may even decide to have two flower girls and two ring bearers. That means two dresses, two Flower girl baskets, two pillows and 2 child tuxes.
Again, tie in look of the ring bearer pillow with the overall theme of the wedding. Traditional theme? Pick a classic style ring bearer pillow like this one.
Beach theme? Country theme? Take a look at this – it’s the perfect rustic burlap lace wedding pillow.
It’s very important that the children understand that they are an important part of this day. They have been chosen because they are special to you and you want them included.
You may be able to have other little duties for them, during the reception. Perhaps they could go around to the tables with the guest book to see if everyone has been able to sign.
You can come up with some ideas to keep the little ones busy for part of the evening and off having fun for the rest of the evening!
